Rosette

Rosette was inspired by a quilt that was made from my mother’s handmade childhood clothes. Her dresses were carefully cut apart by my great grandmothers and then stitched into a new quilt that became a gift for my mother. Rosette fuses memories I have of sleeping under this quilt as a child with my mother’s memories of playing in these dresses. The cutouts in the rosettes subtly reference pockets, that can be seen on the original quilt. These cutouts conceal and reveal another pattern and underlying color and create an unexpected playfulness with light and shadow.
